Ottima la tua idea di formare un "newsgroup" anche per i professori d'italianistica. Alcuni, pochi, rispondono gia' al gruppo che ha formato Candeloro, a cui si e' anche dimostrata una certa resistenza perche', per alcuni, e' troppo legato agli italoamericani, argomento con il quale non si possono identificare per una serie di motivi che vanno discussi anche in altri contesti tipo convegni, ecc. Hai seguito il dibattito? Ad ogno modo, per tornare al tuo discorso, credo che una linea di comunicazione di questo genere possa aiutare in qualche modo a colmare una certa lacuna che si e' avverata nello scambio di idee tra gli europei e i nordamericani - per esempio, una certa mancanza nelle bibliografie di studi pertinenti gia' fatti altrove. Uno dei possibili rimedi sara' un semplice scambio di riferimenti bibliografici da parte dei partecipanti. A tale proposito, allora, inizio col sequente: a chi si interessa di studi italoamericani, esce ora il libro di Fred Gardaphe, "Italian Signs, American Streets" (Duke UP, 1996). Anthony Julian Tamburri Voices in Italian Americana Graziella Parati Explores the way Italian Women writers craft identities through writing. In this important volume, Graziella Parati examines the ways in which Italian women writers articulate their identities through autobiography -- a public act that is also the creation of a private life. Considering autobiographical writings by five women writers from the 17th century to the present, Parati draws important connections between self-writing and the debate over women's roles, both traditional and transgressive. Parati considers the first prose autobiography written by an Italian woman -- Camilla Gonzaga Faa's 1622 memoir -- as her beginning point, citing it as a central "pre-text." Parati then examines the autobiographies of Enif Robert, Fausta Cialente, Rita Levi Montalcini, and Luisa Passerini. Through her discussion of these women's writings, she demonstrates the complex negotiations over identity contained within them, negotiations that challenge dichotomies between male and female, maternal and paternal, and private and public. "Public History, Private Stories" is a compelling exploration of the disparate identities created by these women through the act of writing autobiography.
